Final Cut

Final Cut is completed! The following changes were made:
  • Contrast Filters applied meaning slightly better colours and shadows (but not too overbearing)
  • Titles added with 'CarbonType' font
  • A few shots were trimmed and properly put in place in time with the music
  • Inculsion of Develpoer and publisher logos

(Film will be put here when uploaded to Vimeo)

Title fonts chosen

So i've chosen my titles for my clip, I have chosen the Typewriter one, as I feel it fits more witht he actual genre and theme of the song and clip.

Titles font designs

These are the designs I am thinking of using for my media clip. I grabbed these from a royalty free website, just to get an idea of what I want. Since my film is about a silent assassin, who completely devoid from life, and is controlled by an agency. So I grabbed texts that look like they would be from a Thriller film. After asking my peers on their opinion on the texts, they said their favourite ones were the second off the top and the bottom one, which I agree with. The 1st one has a very Russian look to it, and reminds me of something from the cold war, (where espionage was very common as was hitmen and murder) as the 2nd one looks like somthing from a very old typewriter for  classified documents, which may be a better fit, as my clip isn't actually set in Russia, but does have the feel of declassified missions.

Things that needed to be tweaked in Final Cut

So after showing it to Mr Earl, and a few of my fellow students, and gathered the following points that need to be tweaked;

1. Firstly, I didn't notice this, nor did alot of people till a few Bus enthusiasts pointed out to me that the buses aren't actually the same! However, there is nothign i can really do now, however, the clips jump ahead of each other, so he could of got different buses to his destination.

2. The Snow doesn't seem to be continuous, however the passage of time could say that the snow is changing with the time.

3. Titles need to be added, but thats obvious

4. Intro sequence needs adding with the publishers etc.

5. Complaints that the audio transitions when Ben takes his headphones off is too harsh, need to make it smoother.

6. Need to add more contrast and some sort of grain filter to the clips, to give them a more 'Film' quality look to it.

7. Some of the shots aren't quite on time witht he music and need trimming ever so slightly.

Alarmed Light - Faunts

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm7MhmDXKS8

The reason i chose the Faunts song 'Alarmed/Lights' is because I really wanted something was a mxture of techno/rock and something that you could imagine in a soundtrack of a film, especially the openign (which i'm trying to create). The song's intro feels perfect for the intro, and i can link the shots in tiem with the beats, to start and end with them on time. So when the 4 Second beats start, the clip begins, when the 4 seconds are over, the title will be displayed, then when they start another clip plays etc etc.

I also wanted a song that the lyrics could also match too;

we grabbed all things and ran
we almost lost
we lost our sense of us
forgot the cost
staring for the change
were dreaming unopposed
nothing feels like home
dreamer ...

lights are flashing bright
sirens warning sound
listening to the night
waking to the norm
and i cannot feel a thing
I cannot carry on
i've left this all behind
ready to go
home

So the music's lyrics almost represent the protagonists view in a way, that he's a loner and a assassin, and that he's sick of it and wants to run away from it all, and that he feels phyiscally num to what he is doing.

Editing has begun!

Since I have all my footage complete, i've begun editing my video, so far i'm 45 seconds of my way through doing my rough cut (without titles). I'm currently importing all my clips and putting them in time with the beats in the music, as each part starts and cuts out when each beat plays. (You will be able to see in an earlier post about the music choice). I'm going to look into what titles to use in my clip, although I like the idea of the titles from Seven, as they look rough and quite unsettling, which may suit my clip.

Shooting Segments done!

Shooting has been completed, after filming the first part on Saturday (Bus sequence) with then moved onto the final sequence. This took nearly 3 hours to film on sunda and roughly an hour to film on saturday, but I have more than enough footage and extra footage in case my orignal footage didn't work.

Problems we encountered were the wintry conditions, 1 minute it snowed then it didn't, however we managed to bypass this by having alot of the shots indoors (to try to attempt to keep consistency), Another issue we had was the public who kept looking at the camera when filming, which resulted in numerous retakes of each shot just to make shot.

(pictures from the shoot will be upload when possible)

Permission from Faunts

Changes in Story/film

So shooting has been completed, however due to the wintry conditions, the script and plot has been adjusted, with the following changes below.

- No longer a bathroom sequence due to hard to fit it into the clip, and feels it would be somewhat unnecessary.

-The scene where the assassin kills his target has changed from a gun to a choke hold, due to the fact that the place I originally wanted was waterlogged and pretty much unable to get in and shoot effectively.

-Due to the scene change, I had to find a new place to shoot, and chose a dark alleyway with some wallpapered graffiti (Some interesting shots), but since it was in a public place, i would have to get permission to have weapons in public, and with people moving around, it was considered to be too much of a hassle for a 20 second segment.

Turned down Permission for Music, then given it!

Well, since the Faunts song fell through (Asked the band and the Record Company and they never answered) so i asked a small band called Polkadot Cadaver if I could use one of their other Band's Song (El Creepo's 'Easy Killer'). They originally said I wasn't allowed to use that song due to the Record label, but offered that i was allowed to use their new album.

Then they changed their minds and said 'Doesn't matter, you have permission'. So yeah, I have permission in a strange twist.

Canon 1100D Test

So i bought a new DSLR, and it will hopefully make my media video look more smooth and perhaps abit more professional looking. I have some test shots (Macro) i've done, so I can get used to it for Sat/Sun/Mon Shooting.
